Elections can impact listener behavior toward all radio formats, and NOV22 contained the 2022 Midterm Elections on the second to last day of the survey. Collectively, non-commercial news stations show that listening peaked the day AFTER the elections (see slides below). While this is not unusual, it raises this question: will increased listening to news continue into the DEC22 survey?

If your station is in a PPM market, whether you’re a news station or not, take a look at this month’s Day-By-Day trend in your Binder and see how your station’s Daily Cume was impacted on and around Tuesday, November 8th. Then ask yourself this question: will DEC22 giveth more follow-up listening to the election…. or will Christmas Music stations taketh away?
